Assistant Program Director

(Part-Time 2:30pm-7:30pm)
Position Summary

Nurturing Minds Child Care is seeking a Part-Time Assistant Director who will assist in the overall administration of the Nurturing Minds After-School Program under the supervision of the Program Director, including but not limited to implementing enrichment activities, theme-based projects, scheduling activities, daily supervision of staff, record keeping and reporting, communicating with parents, and organizing special events. The Assistant Director covers the site in the absence of the Program Director under the supervision of upper management.

Responsibilities & Duties
  • Directly responsible for the overall supervision of After School Group Leaders and Substitute Group Leaders at the after-school program

  • Assist the Program Director

  • Prepare alternative activities to implement during gameplay sessions that complement each session

  • Prepare snacks and dinner plates from local food vendors for all students 

  • Encourage and lead projects that foster academic, cultural, and artistic growth

  • Provide coverage when needed

  • Promote teamwork, fair play, and sportsmanship

  • Communicate the program’s challenges, progress, and success with the After-School Program Director

  • Ensures the after school program is compliant and stays abreast of all local, state, and federal pandemic management conditions and requirements

  • Other duties as assigned by the Program director and upper management

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required with preference in Education, Psychology, or Social Work or equivalent experience in urban education, youth development or community organizing with at least one (1) year of supervisory experience

  • At least 18.0 credit hours from an accredited college or university in the field of Child Development, Elementary Education, Physical Education, Recreation or a related field preferred

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, meet deadlines, manage priorities and workflow, while maintaining a positive, patient and calm demeanor, and establishing a positive team spirit with staff, students, and entire school community

  • Strong understanding of New York State education requirements in an urban setting

  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills with proven ability to interact with a diverse range of individuals both in person, virtually and over the phone, applying tact and discretion as situations demand

  • Must be able to articulate outcome requirements and provide the necessary and appropriate resources and support for school and New York Edge staff members to successfully deliver on objectives

  • Knowledge of after-school programs, supervising staff, and program planning.

  • Ability to de-escalate potentially risky or difficult situations

  • Ability to work independently, assess priorities, take initiative, handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work collaboratively and on a team

  • Must have a warm personality and great at listening to others

  • Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Experience with Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Forms

  • Will attend networking events in-person and virtual

Pay Rate

​$22.00 an hour
