Substitute Group Leader
(Part-Time / 2 Days Weekly / 2:30pm-7:30pm)
Position Summary
The After School Group Leader at Nurturing Minds works directly to support our school-age gaming program for children in Kindergarten through Grade 12 by assisting with providing adequate supervision during video gameplay, assisting with game and app creation, and creating enrichment activities and lesson plans for other gameplay.
Responsibilities & Duties

Develop a positive relationship with each child and promote the development of self-esteem and self-discipline

Establish a positive professional relationship and an open line of appropriate communication with each child’s family and share information about the child’s day at the center

Develop and Implement approved daily activities

Prepare materials for daily activities
-
Prepare alternative activities to implement during gameplay sessions for children who do not wish to partake in gameplay
-
Teach or co-lead daily activities
-
Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicate those objectives to students
-
Learn and facilitate video, computer, and VR gameplay curriculum
-
Must have experience with coding, both tablet and computer-based
-
Inspire students to have fun while learning code and integrating technology skills

Assist children individually or in small groups in order to help them master assignments and reinforce learning concepts

Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' needs and interests
-
Support the coordination of program events

Input data and prepare reports
-
Administer pre and post-assessments and evaluations for student activities

Adequately supervise children to maintain the overall health, safety, and well-being of each child in care
-
Maintains a well-organized, clean, sanitary, safe, and attractive classroom environment conducive to the optimal development of children

Serve and feed children approved or provided approved meals and snacks
-
Assist children with going to the bathroom as needed
-
Maintain records of each child’s attendance, progress, and development
-
Participate in mandatory staff meetings, trainins, center activities, and staff development
-
Enforce and abide by all company policies, regulations, administration instructions, and rules governing students
-
Organize and label materials as needed
-
Provide extra assistance to students with special needs
-
Update each child’s daily report using the center’s daily reporting system or logs
-
Complete incident reports to notify children’s families of incidents, injuries, or illnesses that occur at the center

Participate in ongoing professional development activities/training as assigned or approved by the Program Director
Qualifications
-
High School Diploma or equivalent a must
-
Must be at least 18 years of age
-
AA or BA in progress in computer programming, engineering, education, or similar related degrees are highly preferred
-
Experience working or volunteering with youth in a classroom, after-school, or community-based environment preferred
-
Ability to handle multiple tasks, meet deadlines, manage priorities and workflow, while maintaining a positive, patient and calm demeanor, and establishing a positive team spirit with staff, students, and entire school community
-
Demonstrated ability to lead activities with children and teens
-
Experience in coding, content knowledge, and applications
-
Experience working with children and/or teens
-
Ability to multitask and manage workflow in a fast-paced environment

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with program staff, school personnel, parents
-
Sensitive to social-emotional needs and characteristics of students

Self-starter who takes initiative

Flexibility, reliability, and sound judgment

Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills with proven ability to interact with a diverse range of individuals both in person, virtually and over the phone, applying tact and discretion as situations demand

Must be able to articulate outcome requirements and provide the necessary and appropriate resources and support for school and New York Edge staff members to successfully deliver on objectives

Knowledge of after-school programs, supervising staff, and program planning.

Pay Rate
$18.00 per hour / 10 hours per week
